Letter Work
Most of us know our letters and we are now working on letter sounds. We know how to write the letter A D F G B, correctly in upper and lowercase. Lowercase d is still tricky. The rest of this month we will work on H, J, L, M, E. Lowercase b will also be tricky and we try to visualize a bear with a belly to help us remember lowercase b.
Author: Ann Dewdney (LLama Llama books)
We will work on our reading skills:
Reading a book by the pictures to ourselves and our friends
Words versus letters
Recognizing site words in books (I, the, see, my, like, to, look, can, at, is)
Retelling stories in our own words with felt, pictures, or puppets
Stamina (doing something for a long time and not getting tired
Reader’s Workshop
We read books to ourselves and others
Listen to books on CD and follow along in the book
Letter work (work on computer with letter sounds, whiteboards, making letters, and pocket charts)
Word work (practice reading site words, poems we know, word wall, and word games)
Problem solving (puzzles, magnetic letters, go fish)
Writing/Art (making books and pattern sentences)
Reading or letter work with Mrs. Lelm
Math Workshop
We will work on recognizing, writing, and talking about numbers 0-10
We are working on understanding numbers 0-10 by using dice, a number line, a rekenrek, cubes, and through graphs. The kids have loved graphing apples and candy so far and then discussing more, less, same, and in all)
Writer's Workshop
We will work on writing a story with pictures. Last month we focused on making real pictures. This month we will focus writing on topic and on labeling our pictures with the letters we know. We are authors and we want others to be able to read our writing.
