This first month of school we will be busy learning kindergarten rules and routines. Our class will work very hard on independence; being in charge of our own learning and behavior. The sooner we have independent learning behavior the sooner we will be able to break into groups and differentiate our learning as needed.
READING We will also work hard to write our first names with only one capital letter and the rest lowercase resting on the line. Some may get to their last names.
We will begin working with naming letters, writing letters, and the corresponding sounds that letter makes. The first letters will be A and then D.
We will work on our book handling skills: Front and backs of books Where the pictures are located What words are versus letters Enjoying a story by looking at the pictures Retelling a story in our own words Stamina (doing something for a long time and not getting tired)
Author: David Shannon (David books and more)
MATH We will work on recognizing, drawing and talking about shapes (triangle, square, rectangle, circle, ellipse, hexagon, pentagon and rhombus) Counting, writing and understanding numbers 0-5.
WRITING We will work on story telling and drawing a picture that matches.
