Merry Christmas. We in kindergarten are really enjoying the Christmas season with projects and stories. This is a busy time of the year at Willow with many special days and assemblies. We will try to keep you up to date as the days fill in.
Reader’s Workshop:
We are working on workshop component, read to self. We are working on having reading stamina (doing something for a long time and not getting tired). We are starting to work on reading strategies beyond looking at the picture for clues. While that is an all-important reading strategy it is not the only one we can use. We will be working on getting our mouth ready with the first initial of a word to help us read tricky words we do not know. We are becoming word solvers.
Please keep listening to your child read nightly, it helps immensely to review previously taught lessons one more time. It can make all the difference with a struggling learner. Plus they love the rewards!
Your child should know these words: I, a, see, the, red, go, can, blue, to, my, you, we, look, like, and, is, green. Next set: yellow, at, come, it, he, me.

Jan Brett (Gingerbread boy) She writes many winter stories
Writer’s Workshop:
We are working on writing interesting sentences that match our pictures and using our letter sounds to create words that others can read. We love to publish our work and share it with our friends.
Math Workshop:
We are doing well with our math journals recording math concepts we are learning. We are now adding math on my own. Math on my own is when students take previously taught skills and apply it to their work by themselves at their own pace. We will work on doing quality neat work and taking our time. We are working in comparisons (more than, less than, equal). We will work on geometry triangle, rectangle, square, pentagon, hexagon, rhombus, ellipse).
